I began a few days ago with some details of this year's Nebula Awards Conference, which I attended recently at the Marriott City Center in Pittsburgh. I'm finally getting around to posting about the Nebula Award weekend in Pittsburgh May 18-21. I roomed with a member of my writer's group, Sally, and I enjoyed getting to know her better. We also met up with two other writer's group members, Lawrence and Barb.

I just heard that author Anne McCaffrey passed away today at the age of 85. I first met her six years ago when she was Grand Master at the Nebula Awards. In fact, the LiveJournal profile picture of me in the pink sweater over a black dress was taken that night. That's a blue dragon I'm holding. I haven't had a chance to post much about my trip to Florida. I attended the Nebula Awards for science fiction and fantasy writing, and watched the awe-inspiring final launch of the Space Shuttle Atlantis from one of the official NASA viewing areas. Have you heard of the the ThursdayThirteen? It's an informal movement to come up with lists of 13s - covering any topic - on Thursday blogs. Now that I'm trying to do it, I see that it's harder than it sounds. Some topics I've tried I just can't come up with 13 items for. Others are too broad and want to go way past 13.
